Armagh got their National League Division Two campaign off to a winning start against Louth in the Athletic Grounds on Saturday night – but Kieran McGeeney’s men were made work for their two points!

The Orchard County, relegated from the top tier last season, were hot favourites against the Wee County but it was the Leinster side who imposed themselves in the first half, albeit with conditions in their favour, taking a single point lead into the break.

Armagh, who remain a number of players shy of full strength, began to find some sort of rhythm in the second half, thanks to the work of Stefan Campbell.

Jarly Og Burns’ introduction in the second period yielded immediate results, however, Louth showed some resilience and probably should have taken a share of the spoils at the end, missing two decent dead-ball opportunities in the closing moments of the game.

While Armagh got out of jail on this occasion they will need to be much improved when they host Meath at the Athletic Grounds on Saturday evening.
