Armagh GAA club notes, April 8

St Michael’s GFC

Underage Training

U10/U12 training went well on Wednesday Night. 11 hardy souls and 3 coaches were in attendance at a wet and wind-swept Pairc Naomh Michael. This was a good turn out and hopefully will grow and grow throughout the year.

Seniors

The seniors played Dorsey in the last of their friendly games on wednesday night, this was the last chance for some players to get a run-out before the league starts. Although the game finished in defeat, the friendly games in pre-season have shown that there is some potential in this team, and there seems to be a good team spirit going into the start of the league.

Lotto Results for Monday 30rd March were 3 19 23 26. There was no jackpot winner, match 3 Carmel McGarvey and Briege Murphy.   Next weeks jackpot now amounts to £5600. There will be no draw on easter Monday, the next draw will take place on 13th April in Mr Buzbys.

St Patrick’s Cullyhanna GFC

McVerry Cup

St. Patrick’s IIs and Clady met on Friday night in the annual McVerry cup competition. Played in dry but cold and windy conditions the game produced some good quality play at times in a sporting contest. Playing against the stiffish wind Cullyhanna got off to a great start with a brace of points and then a converted penalty from Shane McKeever. However as the half progressed Clady got a grip in the mid-field area and aided by the wind proceeded to claw back the deficit. Despite being under a lot of pressure the St. Pat’s defence did well and by half-time they had managed to keep Clady to just a one point advantage helped by a penalty save by keeper Fergal Murphy.

Trailing by 0-6 to 1-2 at the break St. Patrick’s began to assert themselves with the advantage of the elements. A trio of points by Shane McKeever saw the homesters take a lead that they never afterwards looked like relinquishing. In terms of possession the game was even enough but the visitors found scoring difficult shooting into the strong wind. Cullyhanna kept tagging on the points and by the end of the game the scoreline of 1-12 to 0-7 saw them lift the cup. A useful run out for the team before the league starts next weekend. Our thanks go to the Clady team and management for agreeing to contest the final at short notice. It was much appreciated.

Team: Fergal Murphy, Cathal Donnelly, Francie McMullen, Conor McShane, Paraic Brecknell, Sean Nugent, Sean O’Neill, Ciaran O’Neill, Conall McCavitt, Ciaran Nugent, Shane McKeever (1-8), Conor McCreesh, Gareth Reel, Peter O’Neill, Patsy McKeever (0-2): SUBS USED: Aodhan Conlon, Rory O’Neill (0-1), Kyle Reid (0-1), James Thompson.

PUNTERS LEAGUE

Round 6 of the National League was again highly competitive! A total of 24 points were on offer. With some very surprising results high scores were difficult to come by with the average score only 10. Both Anchormen and Yorkie showed how to predict scores amassing a very creditable 17 points. However they were surpassed by seven year old Ryan Gill who achieved an incredible 19 points- only getting two results wrong!!!! Well done Ryan!!!

All change at the top!! Ryan is now leading with a superb 86 points followed by Martin Gill on 83. Ard Eoghain are joint third, joined on 81 points by Jerome Kearney!! Yorkie’s excellent score has lifted him into outright fifth place. With only one round remaining it’s difficult to see the winner coming from outside the top five. But who knows, it’s still all to play for.

FANCY A PINT AND A PUNT?
