Police in Portadown arrested a 40-year-old woman following a racially motivated assault on a young Muslim woman in the town on Saturday evening.
Sergeant Stephen Downey said the 24-year-old, whose family have lived in the town for 20 years, had been walking along the Gilford Road when a vehicle stopped and the passenger shouted racist comments.
He added: “The female passenger got out of the car and proceeded to assault the victim, continuing to use racist language.
“A 40-year-old woman was later arrested. Following interview, the female was released on bail pending further enquiries.
“We are treating this as a hate crime and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Portadown on 101, quoting ref: 920 270615.”
