TYRES have been dumped along the side of the Dundrum Road, beside the Tassagh Viaduct.
And those responsible have angered SDLP Councillor Thomas O’Hanlon, who says it is the ratepayer who will pay for their disposal.
He said: “This is a local beauty spot and to think someone would just dump tyres along the roadside is disgusting. There were 20 tyres in total and they have since been removed by the council.’
“I don’t know who they are or where those responsible for this come from. It would appear that they have come from someone who deals with tyres commercially. As customers, we pay for the proper disposal of tyres when we buy new tyres, the least we expect is that they are disposed of correctly. Those responsible are littering our countryside and they are tarnishing the decent traders who do dispose of their tyres properly.’
“We need to see better regulation and monitoring of the disposal of used tyres. I know there is an expense involved in disposing of tyres, however the cost to the environment to just dump them is much more and then the ratepayer has to pick up the cost of disposing of these properly.”
