Store cattle strengthen at Markethill

CATTLE trade was very firm at Markethill on Tuesday (June 18) with store cattle and suckler stock prices continuing to strengthen.

In the suckler ring top price of £1990 was paid for a 2 year old Simm bull from a Markethill farmer.  Good quality outfits sold from £1000 to £1185.

CULL COWS

In the beef ring cow/heifers sold to £191 for 570k at £1090 followed by £183 for 680k at £1245.  Good quality cows to £166 for 720k at 1195.  Main demand from £135 to £157 per 100 kilos.  Friesian cows to £133.50 for 670k at £895 and up to £1050 for 790k (133).  Main demand from £120 to £130 per 100 kilos with seconds from £105 to £117 per 100 kilos.  Poor quality friesians from £65 to £85 per 100 kilos.

The 150 calves sold readily with bulls to £340 for a blue followed by £330 for a Lim.  Main demand from £200 to £280.  Heifer calves sold in an exceptionally strong demand to £355 for a Lim.  Several more from £240 to £330 each.

Another large entry of reared calves sold readily.  Bulls sold to £750.  Several more from £550 to £740.  Heifers to £510 each.
