Steady trade in sheep at Markethill

An entry of 820 sheep at Markethill on Wednesday, March 27 sold in a steady trade.

Heavy hoggets sold to £104.50 each. All good quality pens sold from 375p to 398p per kilo for 24 kilos @ £95.50 each. A total of 270 heavy hoggets averaged 26.2 kilos @ £97.17 each (371p)

160 Middleweights were presented and sold from 389p to 404p per kilo for 22 kilos @ £88.80 each.

90 stores were presented, selling from 379p to 438p per kilo for 16k @ £70 each.

The unseasonal weather resulted in a small number of Spring lambs topping at £140 for 25 kilos.

A large entry of ewes sold from £79 to £95 for good quality, with 2nd quality ewes from £50 to £78 each.

A good entry of fat rams sold from £86 to £155 each.

Ewes and lambs sold readily with good quality doubles to £195. Main demand selling from £150 to £190 each. Singles selling from £100 to £160 each.
