Steady demand at Markethill

AN entry of 610 cattle at Markethill sold in a steady demand in all rings on Tuesday (June 4).

In the dairy ring an entry of 91 lots included a special reduction sale of dairy shorthorn cattle which sold in a firm trade to a top of £1680.  Several more top quality lots sold from £1200 to £1650 each with older cows from £900 to £1100.

Suckler outfits sold to £1170 for an angus cow and bull calf.  Several more from £920 to £1000 each.  In-calf heifers sold to £975 each.

CULL COWS

Cull cows maintained their recent trade.  Heavy cows from £130 to £160 for 810k at £1295.  Fleshed friesians from £117 to £134 for 620k at £830.  Second quality from £94 to £110 per 100 kilos and the poorest types from £60 to £85 per 100 kilos.
Cow/heifers from £150 to £171 for 540k at £925.

The 160 store cattle sold readily.  Forward heifers from £180 to £206 for 460k at £945.  Suitable middleweights from £175 to £203 for 340k at £690.  Plainer quality heifers sold readily from £155 to £170 per 100 kilos.  Middleweight bullocks sold from £175 to £210 for 470k at £985.  Forward bullocks from £180 to £192 for 520k at £1000.  Lightweights from £175 to £232 for 310k at £720.  Friesian steers sold readily from £130 to £175 for 420k at £735.

The 150 dropped calves included 35 shorthorn heifer calves which sold to £360.  Several more from £240 to £340 each.  Beef bred heifer calves to £330 for a Char.  Bull calves sold from £200 to £290 each with a top of £305.

The 105 reared calves sold in a steady demand.  Bulls to £850 each and heifers to £615 each.
