Newtownhamilton man threw Diet Coke boxes in shop after row with sister

Armagh Courthouse

A Newtownhamilton man who threw boxes of Diet Coke around a shop after a row with his sister has been handed a suspended prison sentence.

William Joseph Dundon, 38, of Dungormley Estate, appeared before Armagh Magistrates’ Court, sitting at Newry Courthouse on Tuesday, charged with disorderly behaviour.

The court heard on January 9, 2023, Dundon attended the address of his sister and began banging the back door and shouting for her to let him in.

She refused him entry and the glass panel on the door was damaged from him banging it. He later fled the property.

District Judge Anne Marshall added that Dundon chased his sister to a garage and started throwing boxes of Diet Coke on the counter.

She said: “If he had kept it to him and his sister he wouldn’t be facing any charges.”

A defence lawyer said that Dundon, “accepts now he totally lost the run of himself”.

District Judge Marshall added: “No matter what happens and what rows you have with your sister, don’t be taking them into a garage and starting to fling boxes of Diet Coke about.

“There’s people working in shops and customers in shops and they do not need to be subjected to that type of behaviour.”

Dundon was handed a sentence of two months in custody, suspended for one year.
