Man in hospital after being stabbed in chest in south Armagh

A man in his twenties was stabbed in the chest in south Armagh on Wednesday night.

Detectives in Newry are appealing for information following the report of a stabbing in a house in the Michael McCreesh Park area of Forkhill.

Detective Sergeant Johnston said: “We were notified by Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, just after 7.15pm, that a man had sustained a stab wound to the chest.

“The man, aged in his 20s, was transferred to hospital where he remains receiving treatment to injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

“A 22-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, was subsequently released unconditionally.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and I would appeal to anyone with information, or who noticed any suspicious activity in the area, to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1778 of 19/08/20.”

Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin described the reports as “very concerning”.

“I hope the person injured can make a full and speedy recovery,” he said.

“Those who use knives on our streets must realise the seriousness of their actions.

“I would appeal for anyone with information on this incident to bring it forward to the PSNI.”
