Man (21) charged after police officers injured in south Armagh following cross-border pursuit

A man has been charged following a cross border pursuit which left three police officers injured in south Armagh on Friday night.

The 21-year-old was charged with a number of offences including failing to stop for police, driving with excess alcohol, dangerous driving and possession of an offensive weapon.

It follows an incident where a police car was rammed in the Tullyneill Road area of Newtownhamilton, resulting in three police officers receiving injuries, on Friday evening, October 27.

The arrest was made after PSNI officers were alerted to a man who made off from An Garda Siochana officers in the Republic of Ireland and crossed into Northern Ireland.

Local neighbourhood officers stopped the vehicle and their patrol car was rammed. The man was arrested a short time later.

Two officers were unable to continue their shift following this incident.

The suspect is due to appear before Newry Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, November 22.

As is usual procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
