Centenary celebration for Newtownhamilton WLOL98

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson Councillor Michael Savage held a reception recently for the women of the WLOL 98, Newtownhamilton.

Founded 100 years ago, the reception was to mark their centenary year. WLOL98 are a group who also regularly undertake fundraising activities to support local charities and make a large contribution to the wider Newtownhamilton community.

During the event, Councillor Michael Savage welcomed the opportunity to learn more about the history and culture attached to the group’s Orange Hall.

He said: “It is my absolute pleasure to host this reception to mark the centenary year. I made a pledge to be a Chairperson for everyone during my term in office and I was delighted to welcome the members to the Chamber for an enjoyable evening to mark this special occasion.”

The Chairperson presented the women with an inscribed crystal bowl to mark their centenary year celebrations.
