A highly residential road in Richhill that has been suffering from excess speeding will not be getting additional signage, says the Infrastructure Minister.
Sleepy Valley – which runs from the main Portadown Road to the Corcreevy Road – is a heavily built-up area with an abundance of family homes.
But as a thoroughfare from the village to the A3, the road sees a high volume of traffic, not all of which adhere to the 30mph speed limit.
In response to public concern, DUP MLA for Newry and Armagh, Gareth Wilson asked the Minister for Infrastructure whether she would install additional 30mph speed limit signs in the area.
But, as there is 30mph signage in place, the Minister argued it is not “current policy” to introduce additional signs.
Said Minister Kimmins: “There is currently a 30mph speed limit sign in place on Sleepy Valley at the Portadown Road junction.
“My Department’s current policy is that we do not provide 30mph repeater signs in street lit areas as this would lead to an over proliferation of unnecessary signs.”
Instead, the Minister said concerns regarding driver behaviour or speeding should be directed to the PSNI using their non-emergency 101 number.
