The organisers of a charity cycle event in memory of John McNally say are “devastated and sickened” after a yellow charity bucket containing a substantial amount of money was stolen last month.
Police have appealed for information on a burglary in the Sleepy Valley area of Richhill.
They have asked the public if they noticed any suspicious people or vehicles in the area between September 19-25. Did you see anyone in the area carrying a yellow charity bucket?
The organisers, posting on the Cycle 4 John Facebook page, commented: “I cannot believe I am having to post this but sadly this was the money we raised for our Cycle for John back in September. We are all totally devastated and sickened that someone could do such a thing…
“I am so sorry to everyone who donated and supported our event and it breaks my heart that it is the charity Friends of the Cancer Centre who has lost out. You have my word that we are going to do everything we can to recoup this money.
“We have organised a quiz in Armagh Rugby Club on November 18 at 7.45pm as a first step to try and ensure the charity and the people who need it most are not victims of this crime.
If you are unable to attend our quiz we also have a JustGiving page if you wish to donate. Your continued support is very much appreciated. Tracy.”
If you have any information on the theft please contact Lurgan CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
