Alarm over drug use in Richhill – and youths removing foil from shop items for use as paraphernalia

Gareth Wilson in Richhill

A Cusher councillor has raised concerns after evidence of suspected drug use was discovered in Richhill village.

DUP Alderman Gareth Wilson said he has met with police to discuss the issue and has handed over drug paraphernalia found in the area to the PSNI’s neighbourhood team.

“This is certainly unwanted activity in Richhill village,” Alderman Wilson said.

“It is a concern that this material has been discovered and I thank the members of the public who found it. I have met with the PSNI and made them aware of the concerns of local people. It is important that the message gets out there that drug taking is both illegal and highly damaging to a person’s health.”

He said there had also been reports of youths removing tin foil from shop packaging for suspected drug use.

“I am aware that in the local shop there have been instances of youths opening tin foil packages to remove foil for suspected drug use and this also must stop — it is unacceptable behaviour,” he continued.

“The PSNI will be actively investigating these incidences and I would encourage parents to ensure they know where their children are and that they are not engaging in this type of activity.”

Alderman Wilson added: “Drugs are a scourge on society and those behind the supply of drugs to young people are a huge problem, blighting the lives of many right across the Province. It is vital that resources are targeted to this issue and that the tide is turned against the illegal supply of drugs in Northern Ireland.”
