Residents shocked by racist graffiti scrawled across wall in Newry

Residents were left shocked after racist graffiti was scrawled across a street wall in Newry.

The graffiti, on the North Street area of the city – targeted at the Polish community – was also condemned by local politicians.

The message read: “F**k u Polish c***ts”.

Newry councillor Valerie Harte has informed the council about the graffiti and has been assured it will be removed.

“I was contacted by local residents about the appearance of this racist graffiti,” she said.

“They, like myself condemn this anti-social behaviour in the strongest way possible. Actions like this cause concerns and problems”.

Her colleague, Newry & Armagh MLA Mickey Brady commenting on the wider issue of racism said: “Newry is a vibrant multi-cultural City and any form of racism should not be tolerated.

“Every resident of the area has a right to live and work in peace, and to go about their lives free from racism, or any form of discriminatory abuse.”
