Power cut causes chaos across Armagh

A power cut across Armagh city caused chaos for commuters, businesses and schools today.

Pupils and business owners were largely affected when the electricity cut out around midday today with children being sent home and shops forced to bring in generators or shut.

Traffic lights were also out at various points in the city causing confusion among motorists, but there were no reports of any accidents.

One woman on Facebook commented: “I’ve drove all round the town just now, traffic is flowing and I found other drivers considerate at the lights.”

Another said: “It was great, I got through Armagh quicker than I ever have! People being courteous at lights and cars taking it in turn! Turn them off more often. Especially at rush hour!”

That sentiment was echoed: “With lights out have you ever seen traffic flowing so well? Not a single tail back in the area. Maybe the DoE should take note.”

The power was restored across the city shortly before 3pm.
