‘We can attract this type of business’ as new Amazon depot in Portadown hailed as huge coup

A Portadown councillor has welcomed the impending arrival of an internet giant to the town.

Last week, online retailer Amazon announced plans to bring a 7,000 square meter distribution warehouse to the Mahon Road Industrial Estate.

The move promises to bring at least 20 permanent jobs and over 100 driver opportunities to the area.

Speaking at a meeting of council’s economic development and regeneration committee, Councillor Lavelle McIlwrath praised those within Council who have worked hard to secure the arrival of the retail giant.

“I just want to say a word about Amazon logistics following their announcement of 20 permanent jobs and the possibility of 100 plus drivers,” said Cllr McIlwrath.

“It is only right and proper we recognise those within Council who have pushed hard to secure this.

“It just shows that we can attract this type of business, a 7,000 square metre facility confirmed for the Mahon Industrial Estate is absolutely fantastic.”
