Mr Andrew Glenny has been welcomed as the new Principal of Derryhale Primary School in Portadown.
Mr Glenny has taken up the post after a stint at his previous role in Hardy Memorial Primary School in Richhill.
In 2022, Mr Glenny won the Armagh I Inspirational Educator Award for going above and beyond in his profession amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
He was nominated by one of his pupil’s parents at the Hardy Memorial School in Richhill, who said: “He’s a natural performer and educator, he blends the two together to make the most unique, eccentric character you could ever meet”.
The Chair of Derryhale Primary School Board of Governors, Alderman Gareth Wilson, has welcomed Mr Glenny to the school.
Speaking after the school’s Christmas production in the Dobbin Church, Portadown, Alderman Wilson said he was delighted with the appointment of the local man to the post and wished him every success for the future.
He said, “It was great to catch up with Andrew at the really impressive Christmas play and it is very clear that Andrew is enjoying his time at Derryhale Primary School.
“In his previous role at Hardy Memorial Primary School in Richhill, Andrew was very well respected and it is great to have him on board at Derryhale Primary School and I look forward to working with him along with colleagues on the Board of Governors.”
He concluded, “Like our former Principal Mrs Gardiner, Andrew is a vibrant character and has good experience and I know he will fit in well to life in Derryhale and take the school onwards and upwards. On behalf of the Board of Governors and all the hard working staff, we warmly welcome him and wish him every success for the future.”
