‘Viable device’ made safe as security operation ends in Portadown

A number of residents who had been evacuated have now been allowed to return home

A viable device has been made safe in Portadown.

The security alert at Glanroy Avenue began shortly after 2.20pm, when police attended a report of a suspicious object located in the area.

Detective Sergeant Dave Stewart said: “The object, which has been declared as a viable device was made safe by ammunition technical officers. It has since been taken away for further forensic examinations.

“A number of residents who were evacuated from their homes, have now returned and we would like to thank those affected by this alert for their patience.

“Our enquiries are continuing and we would ask anyone with any information which could assist with our enquiries to call police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 1136 of 14/06/21.”
