The site of a former Portadown pharmacy may soon become a residential property, according to a planning application submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
The application submitted in the name of Stewartstown-based real estate company, Ardina Investments seeks approval to transform the former Boots site on Thomas Street into residential accommodation.
The change of use application could see the now vacant commercial site, including shop floor, staff rooms, dispensary unit and office space, redesigned to encompass six one bedroom apartments.
The prominent corner site at 112 Thomas Street – which meets at a crossroads between Thomas Street, Hanover Street and Tavanagh Avenue – had been home to UK’s leading health and beauty retailer, Boots since 2010. Before then it had been occupied by Alliance Pharmacy.
Plans detail that the three store property could be developed to include two single bedroom apartments on each floor.
Each apartment would include an open plan kitchen and living space with a store, bedroom and bathroom.
The existing stairs to the rear of the property would remain in situ to service the first floor and second floor properties.
The total of nine car parking spaces available at the rear of the site would remain unchanged.
The application is due to be advertised shortly.
