Two men accused of cultivating cannabis at Portadown property to face Crown Court

Both were freed on their own bail of £500 to appear before Craigavon Crown Court in October

Craigavon-Courthouse

Two men who are accused of cultivating cannabis at a property in Portadown will face Crown Court proceedings next month.

The pair appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry (PE), the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

Algirdas Bagdonavicius, 29, of Tandragee Road in Portadown, and Erikas Cesna, 26, of Edenview Crescent in Moira, are both charged with a single count of cultivating cannabis.

As the charge was read, it was heard that both men are accused of committing the offence on February 9, of this year, at a property on Tandragee Road in Portadown.

With Bagdonavicius appearing in court and Cesna via videolink from his solicitor’s office, both men made no objection to the holding of a preliminary enquiry.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Bernie Kelly, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released both defendants on their own bail of £500 to appear before Craigavon Crown Court on October 14 for arraignment.
