'Nan never lost her concern for the welfare of the people of the parish, and in particular, her much loved St. Patrick's Killicomaine'

Margaret Ann Ferguson

A service of thanksgiving will be held on Wednesday for a Portadown woman who passed away in her 107th year.

She was Margaret Ann Ferguson, who died peacefully on Sunday (October 6) in the care of Rosemount Care Home.

Previously of The Avenue, Portadown, she would have been 107 today, October 9.

According to a funeral notice, Nan, as she was known, was the wife of the late Crozier; mother of the late Paul; mother-in-law of Jackie; grandmother of Sam and Katy; and aunt of Ian and Valerie Milne.

She was also a great-aunt of Stuart (Natasha), Rebecca (Connor) and Andrew (Sarah), and a great-great-aunt of Sophia.

Among those paying tribute to Nan’s life on social media was Seagoe Parish Church, where she was the eldest parishioner.

In a Facebook post, they said: “Nan was the most remarkable, gracious lady who was so involved in the life of the Church until advancing years prevented her from attending worship.

“Nan never lost her concern for the welfare of the people of the parish and in particular, her much-loved St. Patrick’s Killicomaine.

“The estate was built upon her family’s land and her parents generously donated the land upon which the Church there stands.

“Every time I visited Nan, I came away with a smile on my face and feeling blessed by spending time with her.

“On Saturday evening, I was privileged to have been able to pay my final visit to Nan and to pray, commending her into her Lord’s eternal care. Nan peacefully slept away a few hours later.”

Another post said she was a faithful member of the Seagoe Mother’s Union, attending meetings until her later years.

Family and friends are welcome at Milne’s Funeral Home in Portadown on Monday from 4pm to 8pm.

Nan’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday at noon in Seagoe Parish Church, with committal afterwards in Knocknamuckley Parish Church Graveyard.

The family has requested no flowers, with donations for the benefit of Seagoe Parish Church via www.milnefuneralservices.co.uk/donate or cheques made payable to Seagoe Parish Church c/o Milne Funeral Services, 59 Seagoe Road, Portadown, BT63 5HS.

Her passing is deeply regretted and she is sadly missed by the entire family circle.
