Police accident

A teenager has died following a tragic road traffic accident in Co Armagh this morning (Wednesday).

The 18-year-old man died after the car he was travelling in crashed on the Dungannon Road in Portadown.

The accident happened around 12.30am.

It is understood the car left the road, crashing through a fence into a field close to the Drumnevan Road junction.

Police had closed the road in both directions while they carried out investigations at the scene.

However, they re-opened the road a short time ago.

The tragic news of the man’s death was also confirmed earlier this morning.

Constable Michael McNee appealed to anyone who was travelling on this road between midnight and 12.30am this morning, Wednesday, November 8, and who may have witnessed this incident to contact police at Lurgan or the Collision Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 20 08/11/17.

Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.
