Shock at devastating passing of ‘one in a million’ Portadown man

Stephen Linton

A family and wider community are in a state of shock following the sad passing of a Portadown man described as “one in a million”.

Stephen ‘Linty’ Linton passed away peacefully at his Drumard Avenue home earlier this morning (Friday).

Mr Linton was the beloved son of Conrad and Denise, step-son of Daphne and Keith, dear brother of Ciara, Cathy and Jamie, as well as a much-loved father.

Tributes have been pouring in from close friends and the wider community, conveying a sense of shock and grief at his untimely passing.

One close friend wrote: “Hard to believe I’m actually writing this. There are simply no words to articulate the loss we all feel. You really were one in a million Linty and will never be replaced.

“I feel lucky to have shared so many years with you and will cherish all the amazing memories. You lit up every room with your presence and smile. Glad you’ve finally found your peace. Loved and missed always, Pam.”

A cousin wrote: “You will be missed so, so much. You were truly one of a kind. We were never the closest of cousins but you were loved so very much and still are and my heart goes out to the immediate family circle. Will never forget us flying home from one of the matches sat in the airport and we had them stupid wigs on. The world will be a very sad place without you.”

A former colleague commented: “I am totally devastated and heartbroken to hear this tragic news. I had the pleasure of working with Stephen for many years! He was one of the best fellas I’ve ever known, my deepest sympathy goes to his parents and his kids whom he spoke about daily and was so proud to be their dad. Sleep easy Stephen.”

Another added: “A lovely young man who’d never have passed you. He’d the loveliest smile ever.”

House and funeral strictly private due to current restrictions.

For those wishing to pay their respects they may do so as the cortege leaves the family home on Wednesday at 1pm to St Mark’s Parish Church, whilst adhering to social distancing.

No flowers please, donations if desired payable by cheque or postal order to Marie Curie c/o Joseph Poots and Son Funeral Directors, 42 Bridge Street, Portadown, BT63 5AE.

Will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all the family circle and his many friends.
