Returned for trial on child sexual assaults and communication charges

Craigavon Court

A Portadown man has been returned for trial on charges of sexually assaulting and communicating with a child.

Appearing for a committal hearing was Ryan Abraham (21) from West Street who faces four charges in total including three counts of sexually assaulting a child on 6 May 2024.

It is further alleged on dates between February 1 and May 7, 2024, Abraham communicated in a sexual manner with the child for his own gratification.

No details surrounding the circumstances of the alleged offending were disclosed during the short hearing where Abraham spoke only to confirm his identity and that he understood the charges.

He declined to call witnesses or give evidence on his own behalf at this stage in proceedings.

A prosecuting lawyer told Craigavon Magistrates’ Court there is a case to answer which was agreed by District Judge Michael Ranaghan.

He remanded Abraham on continuing bail to appear for arraignment at Craigavon Crown Court on July 1.
