Praised heaped on police after discovery of ‘sophisticated’ cannabis factory in Broomhill

Police Car night

Police have been praised after officers uncovered a “sophisticated” cannabis factory in Portadown at the weekend, seizing drugs with an estimated street value of £120,000.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Organised Crime Branch made the discovery in the Broomhill area in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Shortly before 1am officers were called to an address in the Broomhill area where a sophisticated cannabis factory was uncovered in a property.

Later in the morning a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply and cultivation of cannabis.

Cusher DUP representative Alderman Gareth Wilson said he was alerted to the incident by concerned residents after noticing a police presence in the area.

He said: “It is a relief that this illegality has been discovered, the property raided and shut down by the PSNI. This will prevent drugs from reaching the streets.

“This is a good example of public vigilance in reporting suspicious activity and hopefully the courts can quickly deal with those behind this illegality.

“Drugs do enormous harm in communities across the Province and the network of criminals behind procuring, growing and distributing illegal substances is of huge concern. I thank the PSNI for their proactivity around this latest discovery.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
