Close to 100 new homes could be built in Portadown as part of a huge investment in the local housing industry of in excess of £8 million.

The substantial development has been earmarked for a site adjacent to Drumford Meadow, on the Kernan Hill Road.

In all, a total 0f 92 new homes are being planned.

An application for the development has been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council for consideration.

The Antrim Construction Company Ltd is behind the proposals, which also involve the provision of an internal road network, as well as open space and landscaping.

Associated siteworks and access works are included too. According to the drawings, the development will be in close proximity to the already existing Drumford Meadow development.

The land at present is zoned and approved for residential development; previous applications for housing had been approved but did not go ahead, with plans submitted as far back as 2008.

This new housing scheme, if permission is given to proceed, would cost in the region of £8.1 million, according to Construction Information Services.

The proposals are due to be publicly advertised next week.
