Portadown paedophile back in court accused of breaching sex offences order

Kevin Christy

A Portadown paedophile accused of breaching a sexual offences prevention order is unable to secure a bail address, a court has heard.

Kevin Christy, of Park Road, appeared before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, via videolink from Maghaberry, charged with breaching the sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) by being at an address without the permission of his Designated Risk Manager.

At the outset of Friday’s short hearing, the prosecution in the case requested the case be adjourned for one week to allow them to receive the full file.

The court heard that the 40-year-old – who was recently handed a three-year probation order for attempting to sexually communicate with a child – was prevented from living at his Park Road address by the SOPO as it is in the vicinity of a children’s play park.

Christy’s defence barrister said that his client has “nowhere to live now”.

Deputy District Judge Trainor asked Christy if he knew where he could potentially live, to which Christy replied: “Don’t know yet,” adding that his mother was helping him secure a bail address.

The defence told the court that the SOPO had been imposed subject to an approved address. Christy had been released back to his own house but was arrested within days as a technical breach had occurred.

He added that “no further offence” had been committed.

Judge Trainor adjourned the case for one week, charging Christy to continue to assist with the procuring of a bail address.
