Portadown man to appear in court charged with making hoax bomb threat

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Portadown man is to appear in court next month charged with making a hoax bomb threat.

John Gerard Duffy, of Churchill Park, is charged that on June 10 this year he contacted the PSNI, and told them that a bomb or other thing liable to explode or ignite was in the Garvaghy Road area.

The 23-year-old is also charged that on the same date he stole oil, of unknown value, belonging to Ulster Carpets.

A police constable at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday said she could connect the defendant to the charges.

A defence barrister asked for the matter to be adjourned to allow the defendant to attend court.

Deputy District Judge Trainor ordered Duffy to appear on August 12 when he will have the charges read to him.

In the meantime, he has to abide by bail conditions which include a curfew.
