Portadown man accused of sexual assault and indecent exposure has case sent to Crown

Craigavon Magistrates Court

A Portadown man accused of sexual assault and indecent exposure has had his case sent to Crown Court.

Andrew Lester appeared in the dock of Craigavon Magistrates Court as the charges were read.

The 36-year-old – with an address in Donard Walk – said he did not wish to make a comment or tender a written statement in relation to the charges of sexual assault and indecent exposure.

It is alleged the offences occurred against a single female complainant on an unknown date between October 7 and 12, 2024.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan informed both the defence and prosecution that, owing to a period of absence from court, he had not been able to find time to read over papers in full but assumed everything was “in order”.

An application was made by the prosecution for the accused to return for Crown Court arraignment on May 19.

Judge Ranaghan granted the application and imposed Lester with a court bail of £300.

Lester was also instructed to have no contact with the complainant by “any means whatsoever” and must also not instruct a third party to contact her, directly or indirectly.
