Police are treating a report that a device had been left at a Portadown hotel as a hoax.

An email was sent to Armagh I – as well as Belfast media, the Belfast Telegraph, Irish News and Newsletter – with the subject line ‘bomb warnnig’.

It was also sent to the Seagoe Hotel in Portadown.

The email claimed that improvised explosive devices had been left in the hotel.

The PSNI was notified of the claim.

But late this evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Police are treating a report that a device had been left at a hotel in the Upper Church Lane area of Portadown on Thursday, March 30 as a hoax.

“Following the report, which was received at 6.45pm, extensive searches were carried out in the area.

“Nothing was found and enquiries are ongoing.”
