A Portadown-based flute band has embarked upon an exciting new project to reinstate an old, vacant hall and transform it into a “vibrant hub” for the community.
Portadown Defenders Flute Band announced their acquisition of an old hall on Carrickblacker Road, Portadown.
Of their milestone purchase, the band say it marks “one of the first instances in many decades of a building being purchased and transformed into a Band Community Hall within the local area”, adding that they are “thrilled to transform this space into a vibrant hub in the community”.
They do note, however, that the small hall has suffered from damage as a result of lying empty for many years.
And they add it requires “significant renovation to reach its full potential”.
The building’s interior
Explaining their current situation, Portadown Defenders said: “While we have actively sought grants to cover a portion of the renovation costs, we need your help to ensure we can complete all necessary work and manage repayments. Your support is crucial to turning this vision into reality.”
The band have now launched a GoFundMe page to help bring in much-needed funds to make their vision a reality.
It has been set with a very modest target of £1,000 and has already raised an impressive £1,300.
With all monies raised the band will conduct “essential maintenance and modernisation projects”, including addressing damage and wear and tear to ensure the building is safe and functional, enhancing accessibility for all community members, including those with disabilities, and updating the hall’s interior to create a versatile, welcoming environment for various activities in the community.
“The new hall will be more than just a building,” they continued. “It will be a symbol of growth and support in the community.”
By supporting their funding efforts, the band say you will be helping to “create a vibrant space that fosters community development and connection”, “provide a well-equipped space for events, meetings, and celebrations that bring us together”, and “make the hall more welcoming and usable for everyone in our community”.
