A Portadown takeaway has hit out after a member of staff was “threatened” and “told to leave without payment” after turning up to deliver a £135 order.
And Turkish Kebab and Pizza, based at Market Street in the town, has warned other local businesses to be on their guard after the “frightening situation”.
The outlet, which provides a takeaway and delivery service, said the “large” order had been placed on Sunday night.
But, they added: “When our driver arrived at the address, he was met by a group of young people, he was threatened and told to leave the food and go without payment.
“Thankfully our driver is physically safe, but it was an extremely upsetting and frightening experience for him.
“Our staff are more than just employees – they are people who work hard every day to serve the community and no one should have to feel unsafe simply doing their job.
“As a small local business, incidents like this are very difficult for us. We do everything we can to provide good service, but we also have a responsibility to protect our staff.”
The incident has prompted the business to make a difficult decision, by asking that any orders for delivery over £60 must be prepaid.
Apologising to patrons for the move via social media, they added: “We hope our genuine customers understand why this step is necessary. Your continued support means everything to our small business and the team who work here.
“We would also encourage other local businesses to stay vigilant.
“Thank-you for your understanding and for continuing to support local.”
