Police move to ‘next phase’ of large‑scale criminal investigation into Drumcree dispute

Police have confirmed they are moving into the “next phase” of a major criminal investigation linked to the recent Drumcree/Garvaghy Road dispute.

Assistant Chief Constable Davy Beck said a large‑scale probe has been ongoing for weeks, led by a Senior Investigating Officer, examining alleged offences arising from the policing operation around the controversial Portadown parade.

“This team have been methodically working through the evidence collected by police so far during the operation, building this material into evidential packages in respect of identified persons reasonably suspected of committing offences,” ACC Beck said.

“This work will now proceed to the next phase where individuals will receive letters regarding the interview process.”

He stressed that the move would not interfere with the ongoing legal challenge by Garvaghy Road residents to the Parades Commission’s decision.

“I am satisfied that this step does not have an impact on the ongoing Judicial Review, which I respect,” he added.

The PSNI said that, as the investigation is live, it will not be making any further comment at this time.
