Police at scene of sudden death in Portadown town centre

A post mortem exam is to carried out after the discovery of the man's body at a flat in the town

A man’s body has been discovered at a flat in Portadown town centre.

Police are currently at the scene in the West Street area in the town.

A PSNI spokesperson said that a post mortem will take place in due course to establish how the man died.

There are no further details at this stage.

“This is a tragic and untimely death that has come of great shock to the people of Portadown,” said Portadown DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley.

“The family and friends of this individual are very much in my thoughts and prayers, and I wish them comfort in the days ahead,” he added.

Emergency services are also currently dealing with a collision – involving at least three cars – on Bridge Street in the town.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this stage with eye-witnesses describing the traffic as “at a standstill”.

This is the scene of the accident in Bridge Street. It’s going to take a while for the road to be cleared.
