Police appeal for witnesses after lorry crashes off Northway in Portadown

Police have appealed for witnesses after a lorry crashed off the Northway in Portadown on Monday night.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident which occurred shortly before 7pm.

The driver was taken to nearby Craigavon Area Hospital where he was treated for his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

Images shared by the PSNI show the extent of the crash; the lorry which was carrying a low loader trailer at the time, completely written off.

The Craigavon-bound carriageway had been closed for a number of hours to allow for an extensive clear-up, including the use of a crane to recover the wreckage.

A police spokesperson said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances of a road traffic collision on the Northway, Portadown on Monday, March 29 at approximately 6.55pm.

“The driver of the vehicle involved was removed to hospital for treatment. Part of our investigative procedures will include an analysis of a blood sample.

“If you witnessed this collision and were not spoken to at the time please contact us and quote reference number 1678 of 29/03/21.”
