Man in 50s in hospital with serious head injuries after town centre attack

Victim in 'stable' condition in hospital while a man remains in custody

A man is in hospital with serious head injuries after an early morning attack.

It happened in Portadown town centre.

Police were on scene and paramedics attended before the man was rushed to hospital.

The victim is aged in his 50s.

Police have confirmed that a 27-year-old man has been arrested following the incident.

A PSNI spokesperson told Armagh I today (Saturday): “He was detained after police officers on patrol in the town centre located a male with a serious head injury in the High Street area at around 1.40am.

“The injured man, who is in his fifties, was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The suspect remains in custody at present.”

The man is undergoing treatment at Craigavon Area Hospital.

A spokesperson for the Southern Health Trust told Armagh I that the victim – a local man – is in a “stable condition” at present.
