Man caught drink driving twice in the space of a month

Defendant due back in court in March to be sentenced

A Portadown man who was caught drink driving twice within a month will have to wait to hear his fate.

Arturas Ignatavkius, 54, of Ballybay Avenue, pleaded guilty to two counts of driving with excess alcohol at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

District Judge Bernie Kelly stated: “I think I am going to need a report, it is so rare to have someone before me with two of the same charges, particularly of this nature.

“Not to add the fact that these offences were not even a month apart.”

Defence solicitor Philip Reid commented: “I felt that your worship may have taken that view, especially as one of the readings was 141mg.”

District Judge Kelly ordered the forfeiture of the defendant’s vehicle which he had been driving on both of the occasions he was stopped.

The case will return for sentencing on March 13, after a pre-sentence report has been prepared.
