A man asked shop staff in Portadown “What would you do if I stole this?” and when arrested he gave his name as ‘TJ Trigger’.
Connor Eamon Graham, of Sandymount in Magherafelt, shoplifted from ‘Savers’ at Meadow Lane shopping centre on April 20 last year.
The 33-year-old appeared at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court via video link from prison.
A prosecutor said the defendant put items into a bag and asked staff: “What would you do if I stole this?”
He then left without paying.
When stopped he gave the name “TJ Trigger” and handed the products to security. He was highly intoxicated.
The defendant asked for police not be called as he had “over 100 convictions and would go to jail”.
A defence lawyer said it had been a “low end theft”.
The defendant has been jailed for four months.
