Man allegedly punched to the ground by lorry driver following Northway crash

One of the drivers needed hospital treatment

A man was allegedly punched to the ground by a lorry driver after a crash on the A3 Northway in county Armagh on Friday afternoon.

One eye-witness said she saw two drivers involved in a physical altercation following a two-vehicle accident around 3.50pm yesterday.

She said the injured man looked “pretty hurt”.

Police confirmed that officers on patrol in the area of the Northway area of Portadown came across an incident involving the two drivers.

A PSNI spokesperson, speaking to Armagh I, said: “The male driver of a car was allegedly struck in the face by the driver of an articulated lorry close to the junction with Charles Street shortly before 4pm.

“A 59-year-old man was subsequently treated in hospital for a cut lip.

“Police are now investigating the matter.

“Witnesses can call 101, quoting reference number 918 06/10/17.”

Police and ambulance crews were on the scene, clearing the accident around 5pm.
