Sinn Fein Lord Mayor Mary O’Dowd has repeated calls for anyone with information regarding death threats made against a party colleague to bring it to the police.

She was speaking at the October meeting of ABC Council when she “strongly condemned” the threats directed at Councillor Paul Duffy.

Graffiti had been posted at Councillor Duffy’s workplace in recent weeks, and a target sign in the form of ‘crosshairs’.

There has been much condemnation of the actions of those responsible over these past few weeks and Lord Mayor O’Dowd has added her voice to those disgusted by what had taken place.

She said: “It was entirely unacceptable for anyone to face death threats or intimidation while serving the community and in his workplace.

“No-one needs to be leaving their job or their workplace because of death threats. But, in this society, that kind of behaviour is totally and utterly unacceptable.

“So I would urge anyone that has any information in relation to this to contact the PSNI.

“Those responsible for this sickening act have nothing to offer within our society.”

Turning to address Councillor Duffy directly, she assured him: “You’ve got my support.”
