‘Little drummer boy’ Teddy takes internet by storm as MP joins in applause

A toddler from Portadown has captured the hearts of thousands after a video of him confidently playing a Lambeg drum went viral, earning him the nickname ‘Little Drummer Boy’.

Two-year-old Teddy, from the Rectory area of the town, shot to online fame after footage (see below) emerged of him drumming alongside a young girl playing the flute.

The clip – captured by Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart – has now amassed over one million views and tens of thousands of reactions and shares across various platforms, including a feature on BBC News NI.

Applauding Teddy’s rise to fame Ms Lockhart, who subsequently met with the toddler and his family to mark the moment with a special gift — a mini Lambeg drum of his own.

“Teddy is an absolute star,” said Ms Lockhart. “At just two years old, his rhythm, confidence and innocence have truly taken the internet by storm. He has become a symbol of everything heartwarming about our culture — tradition passed from generation to generation with pride and passion.”

Ms Lockhart praised the support shown by Teddy’s family and the wider Rectory community, describing the response as “a spotlight on the positive side of our traditions.”

“This moment has brought so much joy to so many,” she added. “Well done, Teddy — you’ve made your community proud, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for you.”

The Rectory Community Action Group also hailed the viral moment as a unifying and uplifting experience, praising the local pride shown in celebrating Teddy’s talent.
