A 51-year-old heroin addict from Portadown has been sentenced for shoplifting.
Aiden McGurgan, of no fixed abode in Portadown, stole laundry pods worth £73 from Home Bargains and alcohol and razor blades worth £61 from Tesco in Craigavon at the end of May.
He appeared at court on Friday via video link from prison where he has been on remand.
During a recent sitting of Craigavon Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Michael Ranaghan had said the “elephant in the room” was the defendant’s criminal record here and in England.
He said despite the defendant being on the PSNI’s ‘Reducing Offending Unit’ McGurgan “is not alone in being unmanageable”.
Refusing bail at the time the judge added: “Mr McGurgan can’t stop himself.”
At Friday’s Court the judge jailed the defendant for four months.
