‘It’s like the walking dead’ – major power cut in Portadown town centre

There has been a major power cut in Portadown town centre this evening (Friday).

Hundreds of homes and businesses, including a busy McDonald’s, are currently without power.

Many of these businesses have been forced to shut up shop early on one of the busiest nights of the year as a result.

Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE) say they are aware of the issue and have sent engineers to assess the problem.

It is understood the power went out around 6.30pm this evening.

There is currently no estimated return time with customers having to sit tight and get the candles out for the time being.

It’s certainly not a case of Friday night lights in Portadown with Anne on Twitter describing it as “like the walking dead”.
