A man who exposed his genitals to a civilian detention officer whilst in custody must wait until next month to learn his fate.

Adjourning the 27-year-old’s case for a presentence report, the district judge commented: “What is it that makes men think that is such an attractive offer?”

Ibrahim Braima Sanha, of Garvaghy Road in Portadown, pleaded guilty to one count of exposure at Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Prosecution outlined briefly that on December 18, whilst in custody at Lurgan Police Station, the defendant exposed his genitals to a civilian detention officer upon being informed a search was to be conducted.

The injured party was said to have been left distressed and embarrassed by the incident.

Defence barrister Damien Halloran stated that comments made by his client “indicated his state of mind”.

These comments were not heard openly in court but were read by District Judge Bernie Kelly from the papers.

She stated: “What is it that makes men think that is such an attractive offer?”

Mr Halloran said that the comments were “born out of frustration” after multiple refusals of being excused to the bathroom.

He added that there was nothing of a sexual intention on his client’s behalf.

District Judge Kelly stated: “I don’t care how frustrated he was. It is wholly inappropriate. I don’t think this is appropriate for a fine and I will need a report.”

The case was adjourned until November 12 for sentencing.
