Brother of tragic Portadown house fire victim in court charged with her murder

He is also charged with stealing his sister's bank card and attempting to murder his 12-year-old niece

A brother of tragic house fire victim Alesia Nazarova has appeared in court charged with murdering his sister.

Kornelijus Bracas is also charged with the attempted murder of his 12-year-old niece.

The accused appeared in court on Saturday morning via video link at Lisburn Magistrates’ Court.

The 25-year-old was detained after the fire at Church Street in Portadown.

Thirty-seven-year-old Ms Nazarova was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her 12-year-old daughter Olivia was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital, but police confirmed last night (Friday) that she had since been discharged.

Bracas, whose address was given as Church Street, was subsequently charged.

He stands accused of murdering his sister and attempting to murder his niece on Tuesday, March 21.

Bracas is also charged with stealing his sister’s bank card.

After the brief hearing on Saturday, the accused – who remains in custody – had his case adjourned.

He is due to appear again before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, April 21.
