Apartment block planned for ‘vacant’ land near Portadown park

The plans also outline space for five communal parking bays at the front of the property and five bike stands

An application has been submitted to Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council seeking permission to transform vacant land close to People’s Park, Portadown into an apartment block.

The application – submitted in the name of Mr Aaron McDowell of Arona Developments – pertains to disused land between numbers 123 Garvaghy Road and 130 Garvaghy Road.

If approved, the 0.14 hectare site could soon house five apartments within a single two storey block.

On the ground floor, the plans detail a communal hallway and stairwell leading to two, two-bedroom apartments; one on either side of the hall.

Each ground floor apartment would have an open plan kitchen and living area to the front with a bathroom and store, a bedroom with en suite and a second bedroom with built-in wardrobe space.

On the first floor, the layout is similar with the exception of en suite bedrooms.

The second floor will comprise one, two-bedroom apartment with a separate kitchen and dining area at the front of the building and living room to the rear.

In place of a bathroom, the second floor apartment proposes a shower room.

Externally, the plans outline space for five communal parking bays at the front of the property with five ‘Sheffield’ bike stands.

The application is due to be advertised shortly.
