£350 fine for man convicted in his absence of possessing methadone

A destruction order was made for the drugs seized

A Portadown man who was convicted in his absence of possession of a Class B drugs has been fined £350.

The charge against Jason Graham McGeown, 33, of Ballyoran Park, came before Craigavon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

It was heard that on May 17, at 4.40pm, police stopped the defendant driving a Seat Alhambra on Churchill Park, Portadown.

During a search, officers located a bag of white powder in the driver door pocket.

When interviewed, McGeown stated that the substance was methadone and that it was for his own personal use.

District Judge Bernie Kelly stated that a conviction would be recorded.

The defendant was ordered to pay a fine of £350, along with the offender’s levy of £15.

In addition, a destruction order was made for the drugs seized.
