Portadown man convicted of benefit fraud totalling almost £40,000

A man was convicted at Craigavon Crown Court today for claiming benefits he was not entitled to.

John Russell (48) of Drumcarn Gardens, Portadown claimed Jobseekers Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit totalling £39,836 while failing to declare capital.

He was given an 18 month prison sentence suspended for three years.

He is also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Social Security Agency.
