Police confirm man has died after single vehicle traffic collision on M1

Police have confirmed that a man has died following a one vehicle road traffic collision on the M1.

The accident, involving a grey Honda Civic, happened at around 12.35pm today.

The M1 remains closed between junctions 13 and 14.

Motorists travelling to Belfast are encouraged to exist at junction 15 Stangmore. Those travelling to Enniskillen should exit at junction 12 and travel via Armagh.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed this afternoon’s fatal collision to contact them on the non-emergency number 101.

UUP Councillor Julie Flaherty spoke of her sadness at the news.

“I’m truly devastated for the family involved in this tragedy on our roads, particularly at Christmas time,” she said.

“A young man has lost his life and a family will be thrust into grief. This is  devastating, and a feeling I know, although not in the same circumstances. I appeal for anyone with any information to assist the PSNI, and I appeal to all to take care on our roads.”
